A Goal for Marme ~ Learning, Doing, Reading a Little Something New

One of my goals this year is to do a little reading for myself, apart from all the reading we do for educating the kids 🙂  I am going through all the books on my shelf that I bought and hoped to get to someday, and putting them on a doable list for 2011!  I am also joining in the discussions over at Life As Mom, for just a little more “mother culture” throughout the year.

Another New Year’s Eve BAG Party!

New years eve 2010 027

New years eve 2010 026
Bag contained new photo albums & Peppermint Candy Canes.  We tossed Candy Canes into the blender with some vanilla ice cream and milk…and topped the milkshakes with Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips, mmmm

In the next bag, markers to make this year’s sign.

The bags were a bit different this year.  We have just moved back “home” from a year in Canada, and I have been struggling with keeping up, and planning for Christmas, this NYE party, the next term in school…
But one bag contained the KNex kits for the girls to build with Builder when he is home on rotation.  These kits fit perfectly with our readings from Archimedes & the Door of Science.

Of course there was the bag with pizza ingredients.

New years eve 2010 051 One great idea from this year, to let the girls start planning some of the party.  Mae planned this hour…
New years eve 2010 053 and it was a HIT!

So this post isn’t near as organized nor informative as two years ago, but I hope you get an idea of the fun we did have together has we celebrated a new year, a wonderful “last year” and also, 16 years!

Introducing…

Introducing…Betsy and Tacy!

Recently Builder told me that we girls could get him a kitten for Christmas…he needs a mouser! So about 2 weeks ago I took a look on Craigslist, and these little cuties are what we found.

Just about all of our animals over the years have been named for favorite characters in the books we read. These two little kittens are no different. Have you ever heard of Betsy and Tacy Go Over the Big Hill?

Holiday Recycling FYI

It’s a sure thing, each year, as we unpack those red tubs of Christmas decorations ~

There will be strands that remain dark, despite being connected to the electrical outlet…

And since having a recycling cart pick up every week, and 10 months in the very GREEN British Columbia, I look at everything that no longer has use in our home and just don’t want to throw it in the trash!

So, today I called around and discovered…

Those Strands of Christmas Lights that just don’t LIGHT…

Can be taken to Ace Hardware or Lowes to be recycled  🙂

Celebrating relationships, a Gift of our Creator

262. Hugging my sister and dad as she cried on his shoulder. Truly miraculous! Friends, it sounds simple, but it is no small thing the LORD has done in these relationships!

263. Cousin laughter ~ I never knew these kinds of relationships and am loving watching my girls and my sister’s kids build deep friendships.
