This week was a quieter, slower week as 2 of our sweet ladies were hit again with the fever and cough producing virus. For the first time in two years we broke out the nebulizer and albuteral for a breathing treatment. Ick. But I am thankful, so thankful, for all that we need; peaceful home, medical care, motrin, warm tea and plenty of soft cheek strokes.
Quiet activity continued, with plenty of stories and a few dvds mixed in.

As I have read through this book, I have been inspired to give more thought to the life giving words that can be shared more often, on a daily basis. One day, as I was reading, I had to put the book down and immediately write a letter to our sponsor daughter, Lesbia, to spend those next moments encouraging her. Another time I had to put the book aside to look at my daughter while she talked to me, to let her know that she is heard. Because, as Dr Stafford is urging the reader to understand, those moments are extremely important.
And as it does so often happen, reading this book has me on the lookout for others, who take just a minute. Recently at the dojo, the black belt instructor had to step away from the class. Our 10 year old Petal Rose (higher ranking belt than the rest of us) was asked by Kyoshi to take the class through a kata. That in itself could have been a terrible thing, she is a soft spoken, reserved young lady.
Petal Rose’s face grew a bit redder, but her shoulders rose a little higher, her back straighter, and her voice was a little stronger.20 Monday Feb 2012

My family is thrilled with this bread, it is moist, but slices beautifully. We enjoyed one loaf the day I made it, some with butter, some without. It was great either way. And it will be perfect for peanut butter sandwiches later in the week.
Berry Orange Oatmeal Bread
Makes 2 loaves
1 cup cooked oatmeal, cooled to lukewarm
2 tsp yeast
1 T coconut sugar
2 cups hot tap water (about 110-115 degrees)(used 3/4c orange juice and added water to get 2 cups)
2 teaspoons salt
6-7 cups fresh ground red wheat (or unbleached all-purpose flour)
Turn out on a floured board. Knead until the dough feels smooth, pliable and elastic. You may need to add up to one cup more flour if necessary to get the right feel. Shape the dough into a ball, put into a well-buttered bowl, and turn to coat on all sides. Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in bulk, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

This is the most popular page on my blog! It cracks me up that everyday that I take a look, my stats list Mr Gallon as the most viewed page by far.
Have you ever met this guy? We discovered him 2 or 3 years ago when Mae was deep in the learning to exchange cups for pints for quarts for gallons in all those challenging math word problems. Now it is Petal Rose’s turn and since I am printing Mr Gallon for her notebook, I thought I’d share him here,

You’ll need to scroll pretty far down the page to find him 🙂
