and blow the trees down, over the power lines, all over this northern part of the province,

but it is really only inspiration for,

some creativity in a sweet girl…

A fall tree in the wind.

Snapshot Summary ~ Weekending October 2, 2010

02 Saturday Oct 2010

My second week in joining in the Snapshot Summary.
Hoping this will be a wonderful photographic memory box of the beauty in ordinary days…
Sunday, September 26
We had a delightful time of family worship in the morning, before breakfast, arriving just a little late to the meeting house in town.  I was invited on an early morning walk.
Monday, September 27
Most of the rest of our school books arrived!
And I realized that we are out of bookshelf space…
Tuesday, September 28

The wind BLEW and BLEW

So the children stayed mostly in…

Chica’s Puppet Theater/Post Office/Corner Store

Mae prepared a wonderful dinner of Spaghetti & Salad

Wednesday, September29, 2010
Builder was home for breakfast, having a meeting in a nearby town.
We continued the week’s lessons, the new schedule working beautifully!  Getting all the “mom intensive” work done in the morning is helping.

And surprise!  Builder was back home as I prepared lunch, able to work from home AND join in another new part of our schedule, a 45 minute, head on pillow, eyes closed quiet time required for all in the house.
His quiet time lasted about 75 minutes.

We finished lessons and the girls headed out and…

Thursday, September 30, 2010

The last day of September 2010.  We finished lessons early and …

Friday, October 1 (October??!!)

A very good day.  We slept in, spent time in the Word, Builder cooked breakfast, and we headed out

for a day in the “big town.”

We had a little shopping to do, and then swimming!

The pool in our town has been closed for about a month and I have really missed my lap swimming.
There are only a few pictures of our day, taken during the 4 hours of driving this day’s outing cost our tires.

And when we weren’t holding hands 🙂  This is what I was working on…
A beautiful end to to the work week!

Falling into Reading

01 Friday Oct 2010

Along with a partial media fast in progress, is also a re-evaluating of the priorities in daily doings.

Participating in Fall into Reading 2010 is one thing I am doing as I work to break a habit, a habit of purchasing books, but not getting them read!  So many good books are mentioned here and there and handed to me and ….

So, here is the list of books I hope to read by the end of “fall.”

Sabbath, Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in Our Busy Lives
by Wayne Muller (see a link to the fast and re-evaluation?)
50 Years in the “Church” of Rome
by Charles Chiniquy
This book was handed to me by a new friend, upon her hearing of our upcoming study of the Reformation.  I am approaching this book with some apprehension, as there are Catholic roots in my and Beloved’s extended family.

Too Small to Ignore
Why Children Are the Next BIG Thing
by Dr. Wess Stafford
As I continue to pray about “what’s next” as our family continues to seek God for a “family mission.”

Swiss Family Robinson
by Johann David Wyss
A book of great enjoyment and delight, that I am purposing to FINISH.
A Landscape with Dragons
The Battle for Your Child’s Mind
by Michael D. O’Brien
As I am becoming more and more aware of this battle all the time.

And those books to share with my sweet children
Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends
by Sarah, Stephen, and Grace Mally
Robin Hood
by Howard Pyle
Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales

Heidi by Johanna Spyri

Seems like a lot of reading to be done.  I’ll post in December and see how it goes!

Prayer of a King…reworded by a Mother

reworded by a Mother, that

my teaching and guidance be refreshing like the spring rain on newly leafed trees, like the showers that fill the dry wells.  May the gifts of her Lord, the children, flourish during their growing up under her.
Marme’s paraphrase from Psalm 72:6&7

Teaching Children to Walk with Him…

29 Wednesday Sep 2010

A few years ago I earnestly sought information and ideas to give Christmas back to Christ, having come to this parenting adventure with very little understanding of Christ and whole lot of conformation to this world.

In my searching, I read about the ministry of St Nicholas and the idea of Feast Pigs grew in my heart.

About two years ago, on December 6, the day we now celebrate St Nicholas Day, my sweet daughters found gold foil covered chocolate coins, paint and white ceramic Piggy banks with a letter by their shoes.

The letter invited them into the joy of giving.

So as the children painted their FEAST PIGS we talked about the “feast” they can save for and give to someone else for Christmas.

Throughout each year the girls contribute a portion of their tithes and offerings.

“Feast Pigs” used during our temporary move, to avoid breaking the ceramic pig.

And throughout the year I try to gather information on ministry opportunities that may match the ideas and desires of their hearts.  Some of ministries our children have discovered are…

Healing Waters,
Hats & Scarves for the Homeless Ministries in our US hometown

Fleece blankets for Fire Rescues.

Stuffed animals to donate to the Pediatric ward at our local hospital.

Feast Pigs have become exciting part of Christmas throughout the year for our family.  And they are a small thing we hope will encourage our children to Walk with Him everyday, as they prepare for the Christmas each year..

A small thing we hope will encourage our children in their Walk with Him.

Gaze Outside and Breathe

28 Tuesday Sep 2010

When your desk looks like this…
And your camera doesn’t even catch the pile on the printer, nor the stack on the floor, and the one heaved over to the shelf,
Take a moment, or two, or MORE
to gaze outside
to remember with gratitude
the gifts that caused the pile up…
Health insurance that covers the bills of new glasses for one, new lenses for another, doctor appointments and perscriptions, the reciepts needing to be filed with the claims.
School books, rich literature arriving, reciepts ready to be submitted for reimbursement, and all the ladies have as much anticipation as Christmas or birthday.
Beautiful children who
have completed
all their scholarly work for the day
and helped set the house straight
after
a weekend of rest
so that Mom exhaled with relief
when the unexpected visitor stopped by to return a dish, filled with pumpkin & chocolate,
and my eyes find only
 clean spaces, and smiling faces.

An Invitation to Walk…

27 Monday Sep 2010

The blaze was brilliant as I opened the door to let the dogs out.  The blue sky, the sunlit gold leaves, the white moon hanging low…

An so I walked, knowing fully that earth is crammed with heaven, every common bush afire with God. (Elizabeth Browning)
And He walked with me, as the dogs danced around my feet, and the leaves fell with the sound of rain in the quiet forest.
He whispered on the wind and in the ripples on the water.
He greeted me with the Castor canadensis, two of them, swimming over to give me the tail slap hello.
And as I prepared to walk back home, to the morning preparations of the Sabbath, these…
Three sweet last flowers, for these
sweet youngest gifts, the third not here becuase the photo was DARK.
Glorious gift, this invitation to walk, just HE and i.  A perfect beginning to another week of counting His endless gifts.
#172-183
172. Pens and deep yogurt. Writing Class is Delightful.
173. Worship over lunch.
174. Protective clothing.
175. Isaiah 43:23
176. A child who has chosen to cultivate joy.
177. Stamina increasing. A strong heart.
178. Christmas request from a child, to hold babies in Guatemala.
179. Sweet, encouraging running companion.
181. A call from our eldest, just becuase.
182. The head rested on my shoulder as I read Little House on the Prairie, one more time, to our youngest.
183.      Hope.
