In late December 2016, I got pretty excited when the image above popped up on my GoodReads page, alerting me that I had reached my reading goal for the year. I did a quick screen shot and saved it for this blog post, not realizing that I would finish 3 more books before the years end. So I read 51 books in 2016. That is an exciting record for me!
My favorite non fiction book of 2016 is Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurstht (a kindle read) and my favorite fiction book(s) have been the Harry Potter books that I read this fall.
Harry Potter books. For the first time. My kids have all enjoyed the Harry Potter books and I decided in late summer to read them via audio books. What fun I’ve had listening to the stories as I drive. Now I can banter just a bit with my teens, and understand a little more of the literary references that are tossed around. It was a tiny bit frustrating when I felt out of the literary loop when they talk about HP. Now, I haven’t finished the series, that will happen over 2017, and maybe by the end of this year I’ll have a favorite HP book.
The Modern Mrs Darcy Reading Challenge was a lot of fun, and surely contributed to the variety of books that I read this past year. My only reading disappointment was not in a book I read, but in one that I have not finished reading. That is a book I am sharing with my youngest, and I really need to focus on completing Hinds Feet in High Places in this first 12 weeks of the new year!
Have you signed up to join the Modern Mrs Darcy 2017 Reading Challenge? I am so excited to see what reading holds for me in 2017, and am using the MMD Reading Challenge as a spring board into more diverse reading.
What were your favorite reads in 2016? And what are you looking forward to reading in 2017?
