The new year is off to a great start, especially reading wise. Thanks to a quick road trip with plenty of time for an audiobook and a kindle read, I managed to finish 3 books this week. While I won’t be blogging every week about what I’ve read, on occasion I might. This week’s books included Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, an audiobook re-read, Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer (kindle) and You Carried Me by Melissa Ohden.
Around the World in 80 Days is a fantastic fun trip around the world with likeable characters, a little suspense and plenty of good humor. It was a very enjoyable way to take an 8 hour drive to visit my dad with my husband and a couple of our daughters.
Chasing Mona Lisa is a good historical fiction, a page turner that was hard to put down.
You Carried Me was a very different type of book. The Plough Publishing House sent me a copy of this book, in exchange for a review.
This book made a strong impact on me. It is the autobiographical story of an abortion survivor, who is adopted by a loving family. As the story is told, the horror of abortion is made more clear, how it not only kills an unborn child, but the wounds of this violence reach far. And the story of forgiveness that this books tells is remarkable and healing, life giving.
I think Melissa Ohden is courageous woman and am thankful that she is willing to tell her story and speak up for those who have no voice.
This is what I’ve been reading this week. Share in the comments any book recommendations you have for me to read in the coming weeks.
