During a visit to Key West, think about planning in a trip to Fort Zachary State Park. This park includes plenty of shade, picnic tables, a Florida Keys beach that is better than some we visited, and an area close by for exploring, swimming and snorkeling. If it hadn’t been so late in the day, Builder and a couple of the kids would have got in the water with their snorkel gear to see what they could see.
Instead, we spent a little while enjoying the sea breeze and exploring the rocks that went out a little ways into the water. I am glad we made the trip to Key West, but it sure was hot that day. Finding this park at the end of the day and getting refreshed before the drive home was just what we needed.
There are many picnic tables in the treed areas, providing plenty of shade. If we find ourselves back in the area I think we’ll actually plan time at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Check it out!
