A Girl Like Me, Julie Elias

December 9, 2017 By Michelle

Julie Elias

Julie Elias is a Christian singer/songwriter who has recently released the album titled A Girl Like Me.

This album has songs, like the title track, A Girl Like Me, that explore the feelings of loneliness and worthlessness.  These are feelings that are all too common among all women, young and older, across all borders.

But we don’t have to live with those feelings.  We have a faithful God Who can bring into our lives inspiration, strength, joy and peace.  Julie Elias reminds each of us that when we are at our lowest, we must choose to remember that each of us are loved, and even “a girl like me” is chosen of God and dearly loved.

I received a cd of the album in November and have enjoyed listening to the fresh new music.   I’m keeping the cd in my vehicle, for regular music rotation 🙂

I received this cd from FrontGate media in exchange for this review.

If I Stand

June 19, 2017 By Michelle

Rich Mullins is one the artists that forms the sound track to my high school years.  There are many of his songs that bring to mind memories, and that have spoke to me in times of struggle and trouble.  It gives me a lot of joy that my children will often sing along with these same songs, and maybe are finding pieces of their own sound tracks of these teen years.

This song, If I Stand, in particular has been running through my mind often in recent weeks.  For “the stuff of earth competes for the allegiance I owe only to the Giver of all good things.”  There’s this conflict between all that is available and what we think we need that clashes with this change that continues within me.

So I sing, along with Rich that if I stand let me stand on the promise that Christ will pull me through to what is right and good.  And if I can’t, or won’t, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to Him.

What songs make up the sound track for this season of your life?

To Love Like You Have Loved

April 20, 2017 By Michelle

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your kingdom’s cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

Hosanna in the highest
In the highest
In the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest

Whatever the mess, God can make something beautiful

The Rock and Worship Roadshow tours around the United States each year, and is hosted by Compassion International.

RockNWorshipRoadshow2016

At the event this year there were delays that we, who were manning a table on the concourse, didn’t know anything about.  We just knew that when 8:00pm rolled around, our “cue” didn’t arrive.  Later in the evening we found out what was happening….Continue Reading

Music Monday ~ Lift Your Head

October 19, 2015 By Michelle

Lift your head weary sinner, the river’s just ahead, down the path of forgiveness, salvation’s waiting there…

This weekend conflict rose in our home, and forgetting anything good that I know, I gave into fear, followed by anger, and the old wrecking ball rolled around, just a little bit.  As I went to bed that evening my heart was so grieved, that instead of seeking understanding, and praying, I had reacted in fear and anger.

A flood of regret, condemnation and grief ran over my thoughts and in my dreams.

Oh glory, though. The next morning I woke, still sad, and settling into my rocking chair I picked up my worn copy of the Valley of Vision and read:
“Let me learn of Paul, whose presence was mean, his weakness great, his utterance contemptible, yet thou didst account him faithful and blessed. Lord, let me lean on thee as he did, and find my ministry thine.”

A lingering dip into prayer, confession and forgiveness paved way for confession and forgiveness and restored relationships.

Sweet sweet mercy.  This weary sinner was once again able to lift her head.

This song by Crowder was on the radio Sunday evening and the lyrics really spoke to me, so I am sharing “life your head” for my first Music Monday post.  May the gates of glory open wide!

lift your head weary sinner
the river’s just ahead
down the path of forgiveness
salvation’s waiting there
you built a mighty fortress
10,000 burdens high
love is here to lift you up
here to lift you high
if you’re lost and wandering
come stumbling in like a prodigal child
see the walls start crumbling
let the gates of glory open wide
all who’ve strayed and walked away
unspeakable things you’ve done
fix your eyes on the mountain
let the past be dead and gone
come all saints and sinners
you can’t outrun God
whatever you’ve done
can’t overcome the power of the blood
