Christmas Children’s Books, A New Favorite

November 29, 2017 By Michelle

There are many children’s book titles that live on my list of all time favorite books. Surely the many memories of snuggling up with my children over the years contributes to my love of children’s literature, but there are other reasons as well! There is something wonderful about finding a gem of a story, or rich and cheery illustrations, and being able to put that book into the hands of a child.

A new book that I am excited to have on my shelf is this one…

One Christmas Bear

One Christmas Bear, written and illustrated by Anne Vittur Kennedy.

This counting book is delightful and cheery. Arctic animals and pops of color on a cold snowy background make for charming, uncluttered illustrations. Rhyming text tells the number story from 1 to 10 in a simple yet fun style.

Newest Favorite Children’s Books

April 2, 2017 By Michelle

Over the many years of parenting, I have found many favorite children’s books.  Now as a grandmother, I have the privilege of helping my daughter in raising another young reader.  And in exchange, I am being introduced to many new books and authors!  This month I want to share with you two of my newest favorite children’s books.

Favorite Childrens Books

When God Made You is written by Matthew Paul Turner (husband of Jessica N Turner), and is illustrated by David Catrow.  When God Made You is more than gorgeous.  I truly can’t get over the colorful illustrations.  As amazing as the words in this book are, it is the illustrations that capture my grand daughter’s attention every time we read the book together.

Where Does Love Hide? Children’s Book

December 20, 2016 By Michelle

where-does-love-hide-cover

A cheerful new book is available from TyndaleKids, with a simple but most important message; Love hides in each of us, until we give it away. Then it grows!

This cheerful book arrived in the mail on the same day that Miss Joyness’ beloved Papa arrived home from his work in North Dakota.   When I first opened the package and looked at the book, I wasn’t sure Miss Joyness, at almost 4 years old would take to it.  She’s getting quite big, you know?!  But lifting flap to find where love might hide became a delightful activity.  I think the storyline is a little abstract at first, but with some conversation Miss Joyness began to understand  a little better.

On each page of “Where Does Love Hide” there is a question about where love is hiding, in many different situations a child would be familiar with.  Under the flap, the hiding place is found, along with simple Scripture to make the connections of truth and love.

New Books on the Children’s Shelf

October 23, 2018 By Michelle

As my youngest children are all now older teens, the titles on the bookshelves have gone through changes.  That said, we still have two shelves full of old friends, our favorite children’s books.   I often receive books to review on By Quiet Waters, and in that endeavor a few gems have been added to the children’s shelf.

Two of these gems are “The Cow Said Neigh!” and “Tiggy Iggy Goes on an Adventure“.

The Cow Said Neigh!

The first book is “The Cow Said Neigh!” by Rory Feek.  Illustrated by Bruno Robert.

The Cow Said Neigh!

The Cow Said Neigh! is a charming fun story.  When I first read it, I felt that it ended too abruptly, that it was unfinished.  But the more I read and think about it, I love that the author left the story this way.  The farm is left in “chaos” and… the reader is left to think about it and add his or her own spin to the story.  I find it hilarious.  It should be fun to read with my youngest grandson as he grows and see how he responds to the story!

My copy of this book is hardback, and I do think it would be better as a board book.  This book is definitely more appropriate for the youngest kids, and for that lot we need more durability!  So if you are interested in this book, I recommend that you choose the board book version.

A series of coloring pages have been designed for The Cow Said Neigh! and you can find them here.   Also, there is a giveaway for a free copy of this book.  You can enter here.  The Cow Said Neigh! was sent to me by Front Gate Media, in exchange for this review.

Tiggy Iggy Goes On An Adventure

Next, Tiggy Iggy Goes On An Adventure by Eileen K Fant and Jonathan Fant

Tiggy Iggy Goes On An Adventure

This book has actually been in our home for about a year.  Miss Joyness has kept it on the nightstand beside the bunk beds because it is a favorite of hers.  We read it pretty regularly, and love to sing “the song” together.

In this story, Tiggy Iggy goes on an adventure with his friend Esmerelda, and learns a pretty important lesson about friendship and acceptance.

The story is charming and engaging.  We particularly love the song and have added some of our own lines.  The illustrations are delightfully bright and cheerful.

These two books have passed the test and made it onto our family’s bookshelves.  Check out your local library to enjoy these books for yourself.  There are affiliate links throughout the post if you would like to purchase the books.  You can read my affiliate disclosure here.

Hello Friends and Readers.  The blog has been very quiet for a time.  There are seasons of quiet when there are no words, and it is necessary to be still.  This has been one.

Not A Scaredy-Cat, A New Book For When You Wish You Were Brave

October 20, 2017 By Michelle

Maybe the readers of By Quiet Waters know I love a good children’s book.  As my own kids have grown,  the youngest is in high school, I’ve passed on quite a few books.  That’s been a challenging job because if my bookish daughters are around they will declare “they are all good books”.   In any case, all the old friends are still on the shelves.

Not a Scaredy Cat

This love of children’s books is why I accept new children’s books from places like Tommy Nelson, Tyndale and Moody Publishers.

“I’m Not A Scaredy-Cat” by Max Lucado from Tommy Nelson arrived this month.  Can I just say, the title grabbed me right away.   The subtitle of this gem is A Prayer for When You Wish You Were Brave.  Don’t we all need that?
